Going to a Toronto FC Game? Here's Everything You Should Know Before Kickoff

There's nothing quite like matchday at BMO Field. The drums, the scarves, the lakeshore breeze. It hits different when you're there in person. Whether it's your first TFC game or your fiftieth, a little prep goes a long way. Here's everything you need to know before kickoff.

1. Get Your Kit Sorted Before You Go

Nothing says "up the Reds" like showing up in the right colours. If you don't have a TFC jersey yet or you want to upgrade to the latest kit, stop by Soccer World at 42 Spadina Ave on your way to the stadium. We're just minutes from BMO Field and carry official TFC gear and accessories.

2. Getting to BMO Field

BMO Field is located at 170 Princes' Blvd, Toronto, on the Exhibition grounds. Here's how to get there:

  • TTC: Take the 509 or 511 streetcar from Union Station to Exhibition Loop, it's the easiest option on matchday.
  • GO Transit: The Lakeshore West line stops at Exhibition Station, a short walk from the stadium.
  • Driving: Parking is available on-site and nearby, but it fills up fast. Arrive early or consider parking further east and walking/taking transit the rest of the way.
  • Biking: Bike Share Toronto has stations near the grounds, a great option if you're coming from downtown.

3. Gates Open 90 Minutes Before Kickoff

BMO Field gates typically open 90 minutes before kickoff. Getting there early means shorter lines, better food options, and time to soak in the pre-match atmosphere, especially if the South End supporter groups are warming up. It's worth it.

4. What to Bring (and What to Leave at Home)

BMO Field has a clear bag policy — bags must be clear plastic and no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", or a small clutch no bigger than 4.5" x 6.5". Keep this in mind when packing.

Bring:

  • Your ticket
  • Valid ID if you plan to have a drink
  • A scarf — even in summer, it's part of the culture
  • Cash or card (the stadium is mostly cashless)
  • Layers — That lake wind can be chilly even on warm nights

Leave at home:

  • Large bags or backpacks
  • Outside food and drinks
  • Noisemakers (air horns, etc.)

5. Know Your Section

BMO Field has a few distinct zones worth knowing:

  • South End (Section 113–115): The supporter section — standing, drums, chants, flags. The loudest and most electric part of the stadium. Standing is expected.
  • North End: More family-friendly, still great atmosphere.
  • East & West Sides: Traditional seating, good sightlines, mix of casual fans and diehards.

If it's your first game, the East or West sides give you a great view of the full pitch while still being in the thick of the atmosphere.

6. Food & Drinks Inside

BMO Field has a solid lineup of concessions and the usual stadium staples. Lines move fastest in the first 30 minutes after gates open, so grab your food early and settle in before kickoff.

7. The Supporter Culture

TFC has one of the best supporter cultures in MLS. The Red Patch Boys and U-Sector lead the South End with coordinated chants, tifos, and non-stop energy for 90 minutes. Even if you're not in the supporter section, you'll feel it. Learn a chant or two before you go, you'll fit right in.
